Messengers unfolds as a dialogue between two distinct worlds: woven transmissions between James Jean, renowned for his intricate, dreamlike compositions that traverse fine art and global collaborations, and Biyan, Indonesia’s most revered designer, celebrated for his masterful craftsmanship and richly layered couture.

Rooted deeply in the cultural richness of Sumba, the collaboration draws inspiration from the island’s ancestral textiles, symbolic motifs, and enduring craftsmanship traditions. These elements are reinterpreted through James Jean’s visual storytelling and Biyan’s couture language where handwoven textures, intricate embroidery, and layered patterning echo the spirit of Sumba’s artistry.

As part of this collaboration, 10% of proceeds are dedicated to supporting and preserving the cultural heritage of Sumba. This initiative aims to sustain local artisans, nurture traditional weaving practices, and ensure that the knowledge, craft, and stories of the island continue to thrive for generations to come.
